Watch Out for Spam Reviews on Facebook
The social media experts at our Premier Partner MKJ Marketing have been noticing a recent uptick in fake or spam reviews on their clients’ Facebook pages.
Sometimes these reviews can be nonsensical, like talking about bogus copyright infringement claims or fake crypto deals, and others hide phishing links within them.
Here are some tips to help if you spot a fake review:
- Report the review as spam through your business Facebook page.
- Ban the user from your business Facebook page.
- Ask your staff and others to also report the review as spam from their personal accounts (the more reports, the better).
- Consider “drowning out” the review by asking families to share positive reviews to push the review further down the page.
- It’s important to remain vigilant about reporting these types of spammers on your page and staying on the lookout for these types of content.
Also worth noting: You should NEVER click on the links in a review that say your account has been compromised or is flagged for some reason. These are phishing links that will be used by bad actors to take over your page. If there was a real issue, Facebook would email your page administrator.
