Urgent Facebook Warnings: Scammers Preying on Funeral Homes and Major Live Video Policy Change

March 4, 2025

What You Need to Know to Protect Your Firm

Funeral homes are now prime targets for two separate Facebook scams, with cybercriminals attempting to steal sensitive information through fake warnings about trademark violations and account deactivation.

At the same time, Facebook has announced a major policy change that will impact businesses that rely on live streaming. Starting Feb. 19, 2025, all Facebook Live videos will be automatically deleted after 30 days unless saved.

If your funeral home uses Facebook to connect with families, live-stream services, or share important information, it's critical to take action now to protect your account and content.

Here’s how to protect your content:

  • Download videos ASAP
  • Back up to cloud storage
  • Request a six-month extension, if needed

Phishing Scam Alert

Scammers are sending fake messages claiming funeral home Facebook accounts are violating trademark rules, urging recipients to click a link to "appeal."

Do not click! Here’s what you need to do instead:

  • Block & report suspicious messages
  • Enable two-factor authentication
  • Verify alerts via Facebook’s official support team

Fake Account Deactivation Scam

Many funeral homes are receiving fraudulent messages claiming their accounts will be deactivated unless they submit personal info. This scam can lead to data loss or hacking.

Here’s how to protect your business:

  • Never click suspicious links
  • Warn staff and secure admin access
  • Make sure passwords are strong
