New Legislation Aims to Protect Grieving Families

April 10, 2025

What your staff needs to know

Two important pieces of legislation were recently introduced in Congress that could impact both funeral professionals and the families they serve:

  •  Whole-Body Donation Reform

The Consensual Donation and Research Integrity Act would bring much-needed federal oversight to whole-body donation. It’s designed to protect families from unethical practices and ensure loved ones are treated with dignity and respect.

  • Financial Relief for Funeral Costs

The Funeral Coverage Act would allow families to use tax-free Health Savings Account (HSA) funds to help cover funeral expenses — offering greater flexibility during a time of emotional and financial stress.

These proposed changes reflect a growing recognition of the need for fairness, transparency, and support in funeral service.
