Facebook Is Limiting Link Posts: What It Means for Your Obituaries

October 5, 2026

Facebook Changes You Should Know About

Meta has begun limiting some Facebook business Pages to two posts with outside links each month, and that can affect how your obituaries reach your community. Here's what's changing, what it means for you, and what we're doing about it.

Obituaries are one of the ways you care for families after a loss. They help families share the news of a passing and let their community know how to gather, grieve, and show support. For many communities, Facebook is where people first see those announcements, so we want you to hear about this change from us directly.

What changed

Some Facebook business Pages can now share only two posts or comments with outside links each month. A link to your website, including an obituary page, counts as an outside link.

Meta first tested the limit on a small number of Pages in December 2025. In September 2026, after launching its Meta One for Business subscriptions, it began applying the limit to more Pages. Meta is rolling this out gradually and hasn't said whether it will reach every Page. We're keeping a close eye on it so you don't have to.

Where things stand today

As of October 5, 2026, the link limit is not affecting Tribute's automatic Facebook obituary posts. Our team is monitoring every Tribute website, not just a sample.

Facebook traffic to obituaries has stayed normal week to week since mid-September, and sales from obituaries remain steady with August levels. That could change as Meta expands the rollout, so we're continuing to watch closely and will let you know right away if anything shifts.

What it means for your obituaries right now

Because obituaries are usually shared on Facebook as links back to your website, each one counts toward your Page's monthly limit. A funeral home that shares several obituaries a month may reach the limit early in the month.

  • You may not be affected yet. If your Page is included, its admin will see a notice from Facebook, often showing how many link posts are left for the month.
  • After the limit, obituaries may still be shared, but without a clickable link. Our team is already working on ways to help your obituaries stay visible, and we'll share more soon.
  • Links in comments count too, with exceptions. Adding the link in a comment counts toward the limit. Adding more links in the comments of a post that already has a link won't count again. And when family and friends share the obituary link in the comments, it doesn't count against your Page at all.
  • Posts without links aren't affected. A photo of the loved one or a video can be shared as usual.
  • The count starts fresh each month. It resets on the first, and unused link posts don't carry over.
  • Your website doesn't change. Obituaries on your website stay exactly as they are, and families and visitors can still find them there.

What you need to do

There's nothing you need to change today. As we learn more, we'll reach out with clear, simple next steps.

If Facebook prompts you to upgrade to a paid plan, please check with us first. Not every plan raises the limit, and we want to make sure you don't pay for something that won't help.

If you've already seen a link limit notice on your Page, let your Tribute team know. It helps us understand how the rollout is reaching funeral homes.

Frequently asked questions

These answers reflect what we know today. We'll update them as Meta shares more.

The change

  • What did Facebook change?

Some Facebook business Pages can now share only two posts or comments with outside links each month. A link to your website, including an obituary page, counts as an outside link. Some paid Meta One plans raise the limit, but not every plan does.

  • When did this start?

Meta first tested a two-link limit on a small number of Pages in December 2025. In September 2026, after launching its Meta One for Business subscriptions, Meta began applying the limit to more Pages.

  • Do links in comments count?

Yes. A link you add in a comment counts toward the same monthly limit as a link in a post. Adding more links in the comments of a post that already has a link won't count again, and links that family and friends share in the comments don't count against your Page.

  • Does the limit reset?

The limit resets on the first of each month. Unused link posts don't carry over to the next month.

  • Are posts without links affected?

No. Posts without an outside link, such as photo and video posts, aren't part of the limit.

Your Facebook Page

  • Is every Facebook Page affected?

Not right now. Meta has applied the limit to some Pages and hasn't said whether it will expand to every Page.

  • How can I tell if my Page is affected?

Facebook shows a notice on Pages that have the limit, often with how many link posts are left for the month. If you manage your Page and see a message about link limits or Meta One, your Page is likely affected.

  • Do I need to buy a Meta One subscription?

You don't need to make that decision today. Not every plan raises the limit, so please check with us before you upgrade. We'll share guidance before you need to choose.

  • Are paid ads with links affected?

No. Ads created through Ads Manager and standard paid boosts are exempt from the monthly link limit.

Obituaries

  • How does this affect my obituaries?

If your obituaries share to Facebook as links to your website, each one counts toward your Page's monthly limit. For a funeral home that shares several obituaries a month, the limit may be reached early in the month.

  • What happens to obituary posts after my Page reaches the limit?

Obituaries may still be shared, but without a clickable link. Our team is working on ways to help your obituaries stay visible, and we'll share more soon.

  • Will obituaries on my website change?

No. This change applies only to Facebook. Obituaries on your website stay exactly as they are, and families and visitors can still find them there.

  • Can families still share obituaries on Facebook?

The limit applies to business Pages and professional accounts. Based on what Meta has shared so far, personal profiles that don't use Facebook's professional mode don't appear to be affected, so families can likely keep sharing obituary links as they do today.

What Happens Next

  • Do I need to do anything right now?

No changes are needed today. If you see a link limit notice on your Page, let your Tribute team know so we understand how the rollout is reaching funeral homes.

  • What is Tribute doing about this?

Our team is monitoring the rollout and how it affects obituaries shared from Tribute websites. We're already working on ways to help your obituaries stay visible, and as Meta shares more details, we'll review what it means for your funeral home and your families.

  • When will I hear more?

As we learn more, our team will reach out with next steps and practical recommendations. You won't need to watch for Facebook updates on your own.

Obituaries can now air on radio alongside television — reaching a quarter of a billion monthly listeners with one click. Plus the Legacy Touch PIN integration, upcoming events, and an on-demand webinar on AI for funeral homes.

A year after integrating with Chptr, Tribute Technology customers can now reach a quarter of a billion monthly radio listeners through the same one-click workflow that already powers televised memorial announcements. WAUNAKEE, Wis. — July 30, 2026 — Tribute Technology today announced that its integration with Chptr now extends beyond local television to include radio through Chptr's expanded partnership with iHeartMedia. Already adopted by more than 100 funeral homes, the expanded integration gives funeral homes access to the television and radio audiences most likely to learn about a passing, attend a service, and support grieving families, all through the same one-click obituary workflow. One year ago, Tribute Technology embedded Chptr's broadcast memorial technology directly into its platform, making it possible for funeral homes to transform an obituary into a professionally produced television memorial announcement without leaving the system they already use every day. Today, that same integration includes nationwide radio distribution alongside television, giving funeral homes access to all 210 U.S. television markets and more than 90 percent of U.S. radio stations reaching a quarter of a billion monthly listeners, all without additional software, data entry, or training. More than 100 funeral homes have already enrolled in the new radio service, reflecting the success of Chptr's existing television integration and the continued demand for trusted broadcast memorial announcements. For funeral homes, the value of broadcast isn't simply reach. It's reaching the right audience. Adults 55 and older remain among the most loyal local television viewers, while radio reaches 87% of U.S. adults every week, more than any other single media platform. Together, television and radio continue to be among the nation's most trusted sources of local news and information, making them uniquely effective channels for community memorial announcements. "This is exactly what we look for in a partnership," said J.B. Showalter, Senior Vice President of Partnerships at Chptr. "Tribute Technology already sits inside the daily workflow of thousands of funeral homes. Bringing our production platform, media partnerships, and nationwide television and radio distribution into that same workflow means families get a meaningful new way to share the news of a passing, without asking funeral professionals to change how they already serve families." For families, the expanded integration means memorial announcements can now reach more of the people whose lives were touched through the trusted local media they already know. For funeral homes, it provides another meaningful way to serve families while reinforcing their role as a trusted community resource. "Over the last year, we've seen that families truly value having their loved one's obituary shared on local television," said Anthony Harris, Location Manager at Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services. "No single place reaches everyone. Some people watch the news. Others hear the local radio station on the way to work. Adding radio gives us another trusted way to help families reach more of the people who would want to know. It's another meaningful service we can provide with every arrangement." The addition of radio builds on a year of successful television distribution through the existing Tribute Technology integration. "Our responsibility is to continually strengthen the platform funeral homes depend on every day," said Craig Greenseid, CEO of Tribute Technology. "When we can bring meaningful new capabilities into that workflow without adding complexity, our customers benefit. Expanding our integration with Chptr is another example of our commitment to helping funeral professionals better serve families through the technology they already trust." The expanded integration is now available to all Tribute Technology customers. Learn more at Tribute Spotlights | TV Obituaries | Tribute Technology .
